One of the few tuba players in the world to commit to a full-time solo career, Patricio Cosentino also stands out for his work as a chamber musician, conductor, and educator. His career reflects an unwavering commitment to the promotion and appreciation of Latin American music, as well as the expansion of the tuba repertoire on major stages in America, Europe, and Africa.
A graduate of the prestigious Hochschule für Musik “Franz Liszt” in Weimar, Germany, under the guidance of the renowned tubist Walter Hilgers, Patricio became the first full professor of tuba in Argentina with a higher education degree. During his tenure as principal tubist of the National Symphony Orchestra of Argentina, he gained extensive orchestral experience alongside prominent conductors. Later, he directed his career exclusively toward solo performance, significantly expanding the repertoire and elevating the tuba’s presence on the international music scene.
A passionate advocate for Latin American music, Patricio has been a driving force behind the creation of original repertoire for tuba, collaborating directly with composers from the region. His dedication has resulted in the creation and world premieres of over 150 works by composers such as Roberto Pintos, Noelis Escalzo, Rafael Piccolotto de Lima, Gerardo Gardelín, Jorge Tagliapietra, Luis Rojas, Ignacio Freijo, and Yanella Bia, among others. His work has expanded the brass music landscape, solidifying the tuba as an instrument of artistic prominence and innovation.
As an internationally renowned educator, Patricio is frequently invited to deliver masterclasses and workshops at prestigious institutions, including Yale University, New York University, Curtis Institute of Music, Carnegie Mellon University, Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris, Hochschule für Musik Würzburg, Privat Universität Linz, ESMUC, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Conservatorio Superior de Música “Manuel de Falla,” and UNICAMP, among others. His contribution to the training of young musicians has elevated the technical and artistic standards of the instrument.
In the recording field, Patricio has released critically acclaimed albums such as Sudamérica Vibra, MOVE!, Viejos Aires, Just for Fun, Klangspuren, and Durchgang, showcasing his versatility as a performer and his constant pursuit of musical innovation. His work as a chamber musician is equally notable, as a member of the renowned Dispar Trio.
Since 2015, Patricio has been an artist with Buffet Crampon, a global reference in brass instruments, using tubas from the prestigious brands Melton/Meinl Weston, B&S, and Besson, celebrated for their excellence and quality. As an ambassador of Latin American music for brass instruments, he has promoted the region’s musical culture on the world’s most prestigious stages.
